Ladybower 21 mile race

Ladybower race

Five ADAC runners headed to Derbyshire last weekend to take part in the Ladybower 20 mile race (actually 20.9 miles!). This race was part of the Ladybower race series with two races taking place - a 20 mile race and a 50 mile ultra race. The race was a trail race with most of the race being run on forest fire roads. The race route was around the Derwent reservoir and the scenery was stunning. The weather conditions for the first part of the race were perfect race conditions- dry and cool with a light breeze but later on the heavens opened and we all got a good soaking!

First home for ADAC was Kevin Plummer in a fantastic time of 2:42 and 8th overall, Ruth Griffith and Janet Priestley followed in 3:32 and Nicola Kennedy and Louise Hopper in 4:08. Louise suffered severe leg cramp at mile 17 which slowed her and Nicola’s final miles.

Our thanks go to the race organisers for a superbly organised event which had a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The race also welcomed runners with their dogs using Cani-cross. Next year the organisers hope to run a 35 mile ultra in addition to the other two races. Definitely one to do again with some of the ADAC dogs!
