Winter League 2016/17

The Senior's Winter League for 2016/17 will consist of 11 races with the best 7 results scoring.

Every competitor will receive 4 Pts for completion of any event up to a maximum of 7 but a further bonus of 10 points if all 11 events completed (on the correct day at the correct time!)

Fastest male runner in event will receive 10 pts, 2nd - 8 pts, 3rd - 6 pts down to 1 point for 8th.  Lady’s points to be awarded on a similar basis. In addition ALL results will be age graded. 1st Place will receive 15 pts – 2nd 14 pts, 3rd 13 pts and so on down to 1 pt.  As we have experienced in the past events may need to be postponed or moved at short notice due to weather conditions - please keep an eye on club news (TeamAp and Facebook) for any updates.  all events will be run with a handicap start.

Wamphrey Glen Report

  

27 runners took part in the Wamphrey Glen race on Sunday, this is the second race in the winter league series. It is a 5 mile race which has many twist and turns and takes in a variety of terrains, from forest trails, across fields,  along burn side tracks and along country roads around the parish of Wamphrey. The race is hosted by Kevin and Louise Plummer who provided a fantastic feast and many thanks go to Louise for all her hard work and much appreciated hot food after the race. The morning itself was a chilly but sunny winter morning with a hard frost overnight making the road sections slippery but firming up the muddy sections of the route.

Winner of the race was Adam Anderson in a time of 33.46, second place went to Mark Whitelaw in a time of 35.05, third place went to 16 year old Ewan Fairgrieve who has just recently started to run in the club races, Ewan achieved a fantastic time of 36.15. First lady was Shirley Singh in a time of 42.38, second lady was Rosie Allen in a time of 42.42 with their only being 4 seconds between the first and second lady. Third lady was Ketia Stephenson in a time of 48.01. There was 2 juniors running on the day with Ewan Fairgrieve picking up 3 overall,  Michael Kerr picked up the award for first Junior. Most improved runner who was over 2 minutes faster this year compared with last year's time was Nicola Kennedy in a time of 51.51.

Thanks goes to all runners taking part, to crown estates for allowing the race to take place over their ground, to Kevin and Louise Plummer for hosting the event and to all the people who helped with time keeping stewarding, photography and who provided food and refreshment for after the race. Next race in the winter league is the Hoddom golf course race on the 4th of December.  

Hoddom Golf Course race

33 runners took part this Sunday in the ADAC Hoddom  winter league race. It was a beautiful frosty, sunny morning with the ground conditions good, the trail sections were firm and the road sections not too icy. The winners of the race were Graham McLellan and Rory Graham, who were first equal in a time of  31 minutes (a new course record!!!!).  Third place went to Ewan Fairgrieve in a time of 31.35 and in fourth equal was Mark Whitelaw and Michael Kerr in a time of 31.52.

First lady went to Rosie Allen in a time of 39.01, second lady was Janet Priestley in 39.54 and third lady went to Jane Boreland, who completed the race in 40minutes and 7seconds. Thanks go to Hoddom and Kinmount estates and Hoddom golf course and caravan site for allowing the race to take place over their property. Thanks also go to Chris Palmer, for liaising with landowners and for putting out signs, to Caroline Legg for the photography, to Alan and Linda Cameron for organising the race and to everyone who brought post race refreshments and to all who took part.

The next race in the winter League is at Dalbeattie Forest it is a 5mile trail race hosted by Graham McLellan and is taking place next Sunday the 11th December at 10.30am

Dalbeattie Forest Race - 11th Dec 2016

There was a new route for ADAC runners at Dalbeattie forest, where a 5 mile trail race was held on Sunday the 11th December. 29 runners took part in the race which was hosted by Graham and Susan McLellan, with the help of Mark Whitelaw and Michelle McCrindle, who provided much appreciated hot soup and post race refreshments. Winner of the race was Graham McLellan with a time of 30 mins 40 secs. In second place was Mark Whitelaw in a time of 32.01 and in third place was young Ewan Fairgrieve a young runner who has just started running with the club and is showing great potential, being consistently placed in all the races he has done. Ewan's time was 32mins 45 secs.

First female was Rosie Allen in a time of 39.52, Rosie is another ADAC runner who is doing well in the winter league and is proving to be strong competition for the other female runners within the club. Second female was Janet Priestley in 40.47 and in third place was Liz Dawson with a time of 44.25.

Thanks go to Graham and Susan McLellan for hosting the race and marking the route, Mark and Michelle for the soup and to everyone else who brought food and drink for after the race. Thanks also go to Alan and Linda Cameron for time keeping, photography and organising the winter league. Also a special mention and thanks goes to Nigel Priestley who cycled the route offering support and sweets to the runners and who's encouragement was much appreciated.

Next race for the runners is a fancy dress fun run starting in Annan at 10.30am on Sunday the 18th of December all welcome. Training will continue as usual over the festive period with training taking place on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, more details can be found  on Annan and District Athletic club website and on their Facebook page or on Twitter at  @adac-info 

Christmas Fancy Dress Fun Run 18th December 2016

24 runners from ADAC took part in their annual Christmas fun run around the streets of Annan last Sunday. It was a non competitive run where the runners dressed up in their festive costumes and brightened up a grey Sunday morning for the residents of Annan. Prizes were given to the best dressed dogs and to the best festive costume for the male and female runners. Winning the best costume for their joint themed outfit of the 3 kings was Darren Foley, Barry Fitzgerald and Rosie Allen. Winning the best female costume was Yvonne Kerr with her reindeer  costume. Festive food and drink was provided for after the run and a good time was had by all. Thanks go to Alan and Linda Cameron for organising the run and  providing prizes and mulled wine. Thanks also go to Ruth Griffith for planning the route, to Nigel Priestly for road support and back up, to Caroline Legg for photography and to all who took part and helped provide post run refreshments.

On New Year's day there is the Whisky run at Langholm, which is popular with many runners, it is not part of the ADAC winter League but a nice race to blow away any cobwebs or any over indulgences over the holidays.

Black Esk 7.6 mile trail race 7th January 2017.

 

28 runners and 2 cyclists took part in Annan and District Athletic Club Black Esk trail race at the weekend. The run is part of ADAC winter league series, conditions on the day were good with the fog of early morning lifting the day was pleasantly warm and dry.

Graham McLellan took first place again in 47.01 followed closely by young Ewan Fairgrieve who was only 13 seconds behind him making Graham work hard for his win in a time of 47.14, in third place was Michael Kerr in a time of 48.09

Frist Lady home was Rosie Allen in a time of 60 minutes and 28 seconds,  second lady was Janet Priestley in 63.34 and third lady went to Emma Kerr in a time of 65.46.

Ponsse to Millhousebridge Race

On Saturday the 21st of January, the 6th race in ADACs winter league took place. The road race was from Ponsse in Lockerbie up to Stevencroft turning left to Fishbeck farm to Millhousebridge and then a circular route back to Stevencroft and then Lockerbie which was 7 miles in total. The day itself was a nice bright January morning after a bit of frost the night before. 26 runners took part on the day with two ADAC members taking to their bikes and cycling, offering guidance and support to any runners unsure of the route.

Young Ewan Fairgrieve won the race in a time of 42 minutes 33 seconds, Ewan is a young 16 year old lad who has just recently joined the club and is having a fantastic season being consistently in with the top placed runners and improving all the time. In second place was Graham McLellan in a time of 42.55 and in third place was Mark Whitelaw in a time of 43.21.

First lady was Janet Priestley in a time of 56.23, second lady was Jane Boreland in a time of 57.21 and third lady was Rosie Allen in a time of 60.10.

Nigel Priestley and Kevin Plummer were cycling and Barry Fitzgerald was time keeping.

Crooked Road - 11th Feb

Crooked Road race took place on Saturday the 11th of February. The race is a tough 5 mile hill race up an off road trail besides the Crooked Road in Beattock. Conditions on the day were cold and windy with drizzly rain. With a few runners injured and ill and some others doing the Carnethy 5 Hills Race, 17 runners took part in the race. Coming along to support the runners was Ewan Fairgrieve cycling, John Robson having an easy run round, Kevin Plummer photography and Barry Fitzgerald time keeping.

Michael Kerr was winner of the race in a time of 33minutes 15 seconds, in second place was Joe Boardman in a time of 35.34 and in third place was Andy Fairgrieve in 37.15. First lady home was Rosie Allen in a time of 40.25, second lady was Louise Hopper in 47.10 and joint third went to Linda Cameron and Yvonne Kerr in a time of 51.48.

Other runners were D. Wood 38.58, Darren Foley 40.41, John Cowan 41.10, Chris Palmer 41.12, John Murphy 42.27, Richard Smith 43.09, Billy Kerr 43.54, Alan Cameron 47.10, Kenny Patterson 52.48, Jean Robson 58.50.

Many thanks to all who turned up to take part, thanks also go to everyone who provided after race refreshments, the tea, coffee, brownies, biscuits and the Swedish bun was very much appreciated. Crooked road is the 7th race in the winter league series with another 4 races to go before completion of the Championship. Leading the men’s championship at the moment is Graham McLellan followed by Mark Whitelaw. Janet Priestley is in the lead in the women’s championship followed by Rosie Allen.

 

5 ADAC runners braved the ‘Craigdon’ Carnethy Five Hill Race

The race starts near Silverburn village and is approximately six miles long with 2500' of ascent, covering five tops in the Pentland Hills.

On Saturday 11th February, the ADAC boys were on tour at the first Scottish Hill Race of the year, Carnethy 5.  After last year's horrendous snow, ice and wind, everyone was confident this year couldn't possibly be any worse, how wrong!  The intrepid group of Adam Anderson, Mark Whitelaw, Alan Crieghton and first time hill racers Graham McLellan and Stuart Baird, found themselves faced with 10cm of snow, 50 mph winds and a wind-chill of -15 for the 6 mile course.
In a field of 472 finishers the ADAC boys survived the conditions and raced well, with Adam Anderson first home in 1:06:58 (85th), followed by Mark Whitelaw in 1:09:17 (105th), close behind was Graham McLellan in 1:10:12 (116th), Stuart Baird ran well in 1:26:16 (335th) and Alan Crieghton finished in 1:53:39 (458th).   A much needed hot shower and hot food provided by race organisers Carnethy provided a great end to a challenging but enjoyable day on the hills.

Brownmoor

Runners from Annan and District Athletic club were out racing at Brownmoor forest at the weekend. Conditions were poor for the athletes as they battled against wind and rain around a hilly course. There was a good turnout of runners despite the adverse weather, with 17 runners taking part.

Joe Boardman won the race in a time of 39.04, in second place was John Green (41.29) and in third place was another young runner Joe Argo in a time of 41.55. Rosie Allen was first lady in a time of 45.01, Janet Priestley was second lady in a time of 47.48 and third lady went to Linda Cameron, Louise Hopper and Nicola Kennedy in a time of 55.19.

Other runners taking part were Andrew Kennedy (42.19), Chris Palmer(44.58), Ewan Fairgrieve(46.00) who unfortunately took the wrong course adding an extra hill to his race before correcting himself and doing the right course, Richard Smith(46.11), Alan Cameron(49.16), Johnny Minto(54.22), Andy Fairgrieve(55.03) another runner who took the wrong course, Alan Creighton(66.00) and Gordon Vivers DNF. Many thanks to all runner who took part and to those who helped with time keeping and refreshments. Thanks also go to the landowners for the use of their woods.

Town run series

The town run race took place at Moffat on Tuesday the 21st on another wet and windy evening. The race took place around the streets of Moffat over a 4.5-mile course. Winner of the race was Michael Kerr in a time of 30.18, in second place was Gordon Vivers in 31.55, and third place went to Chris Palmer in 32.51. First Lady was Janet Priestley in a time of 36.41 and second lady went to Linda Cameron in a time of 41.40.

Other runners taking part in the race were John Green(33.11), Kevin Plummer(34.04), Ewan Fairgrieve(34.11), John Murphy(34.23), Alan Cameron(37.22) and Billy Kerr DNF. Thanks goes to Barry Fitzgerald for time Keeping and to Nigel Priestley who provided cycling support.

Beattock 6-mile Race

19 runners turned up to run in the ADAC Beattock 6-mile race. This was a new route for the runners with an undulating course along the country roads, starting and finishing at Beattock. The race was hosted by Martin and Paula Coopland who planned and organised the race and very kindly provided hotdogs and post-race refreshments.

Winner of the race was Ewan Fairgrieve in a time of 36minutes 32 seconds. In second place was Graham McLellan in a time of 37.48 and in third place was Michael Kerr in 39.59. First lady was Rosie Allen in a time of 47minutes 6 seconds, Janet Priestley was second lady in a time of 49 minutes 17 seconds and third lady went to Linda Cameron in 55minutes 14 seconds.

Elsewhere at the weekend in glorious sunshine Mark Whitelaw and Adam Anderson from ADAC took part in the Butterfly Events Hill Billy 10k trail race around the beautiful Craigengillan Estate at Dalmellington. Out of the 136 runners Mark Whitelaw and Adam Anderson took 5th(41:26) and 6thplace (42:05) respectively and thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic post-race buffet provided by the organisers.

 

Auchenrodden Forest 4.8m

Auchenrodden 4.8 mile trail race took place on Saturday conditions were wet and muddy, 12 runners took part in the race. Winner of the race was Ewan Fairgrieve setting yet another course record with a time of 28 minutes 20 seconds. Beating the previously held record of 31.30 set by Rory Longmore in January 2015. In second place was Graham McLellan in a time of 29.42 and in third place was Joe Boardman in a time of 32.33.

Other runners were Chris Palmer 36.45, Rosie Allen 37.03, John Murphy 38.08, Alan Cameron 40.03, Billy Kerr 40.46, Linda Cameron, Yvonne Kerr, Ruth Griffith 48.00 and Nicola Kennedy 48.18

Nigel Priestley and Richard Smith cycled the course and Alan and Rose Creighton and Andy Fairgrieve walked. Thanks to Barry Fitzgerald for timekeeping duties.

Burnswark race, 25/3/17

11 runners took part in the last race in Annan and District Athletic club winter league series.

The race is 5.5 miles out and back route starting at the village of Eccelefechan where the route takes you along country roads until you reach the bottom of Burnswark where you then proceed into a field to reach the summit of Burnswark hill.

Winner of the race was Ewan Fairgrieve who yet again set a new course record in a time of 36 minutes 5 seconds beating the previous course record of 36.32 set by Rory Longmore in March 2014. In second place was Joe Boardman in a time of 41.59 and in third place was Andy Fairgrieve in 42.42. First lady was Janet Priestley in a time of 53.08, second lady was Linda Cameron in 57.34 and third lady was Ruth Griffith in a time of 58.10.

Other runners were John Green (44.44), John Murphy (48.45), Richard Smith (49.32), Alan Cameron (52.19) and Alan Creighton (62.07).

The runners form ADAC will now move onto their summer season of race with the road Championship and the hill Championship to be contested for.
