Screel hill race

10 runners from Annan and District Athletic club took part in Screel hill race on Saturday the 8th of April. Out of a field of 50 runners ADAC did well in the prizes.

The race is a 6.4-kilometre course in which runners start the 400m climb straight away first up a forest track then up through woodland for a scramble onto the top of the first hill where it flattens off and runners have to run over an undulating and boggy path to the summit of Screel itself. Once the summit has been reached runners then have to descend a technical and rocky path contour around the bottom of the hill before reaching the sting in the tail of a tricky ascent back up the hill before finally a long technical descent back to the start/finish line. Conditions on the day were good with lovely blue skies and sunshine.

Winner of the race was ADAC’s very one Ewan Fairgrieve in an impressive time of 33 minutes 15 seconds beating the second-place runner by just under two minutes. Ewan is only 16 years old and still classed as a junior but showed his running prowess with an ability to go fast even over very technical ground.

Adam Anderson took 2nd ADAC and came in 4th overall claiming the 1stMV place in a time of 35.29. Mark Whitelaw was 3rd ADAC runner 6th overall and 2nd MV40 (37.15).  First ADAC lady was Rosie Allen she was in 31st position overall and took the 2ndFV40 prize in a time of 45.46, 2nd ADAC lady was Yvonne Kerr in a time of 61.12 (44 overall) closely followed by 3rd ADAC lady Jean Robson who was first FV60 in a time of 61.39 (46 overall)

Other runners were Kevin Plummer 13 overall (40.26), John Robson 28th overall (44.40), Alan Cameron 42overall (56.13) and Linda Cameron 47th overall (63.54)

Thanks goes to race organiser Dougie Milligan for a splendid and well organised race and to all marshals and people who helped in anyway.
